If you’re seeking a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating massage that nurtures your body and calms your mind, Abhyanga, the ancient Ayurvedic oil massage, may be exactly what you need.
At my practice in The Space Above, I offer a 60-minute full-body Abhyanga massage using warmed, cold-pressed organic sesame oil, tailored to your unique needs. Whether you’re brand new to Ayurveda or a seasoned wellness seeker, this massage offers a grounding, therapeutic experience unlike any other.

What Is Abhyanga?
Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic full-body massage performed using warm herbal oils. More than just a relaxing treatment, it is a deeply healing ritual that works on both physical and energetic levels. In Ayurveda, daily Abhyanga is recommended to maintain balance and health—but even a weekly or monthly session can bring remarkable benefits. During our seasonal day retreats we explore the art of Self Abhyanga as we understand it’s not always possible to receive a massage and want to share the beauty and healing properties of this fabulous self care ritual with you.
Benefits of Abhyanga Massage
Abhyanga offers a wide range of benefits, including:
Nourishes the skin and tissues
Warm sesame oil penetrates deeply into the skin, hydrating and feeding the tissues.
Improves circulation and lymphatic flow
The rhythmic strokes help remove stagnation and support detoxification.
Supports the nervous system
This massage soothes the nerves, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue.
Relieves muscle tension and joint stiffness
Especially helpful for those with chronic pain, tension, or arthritis.
Promotes better sleep
Regular Abhyanga calms the mind and encourages more restful sleep.
Balances the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha)
When personalized to your constitution, it can help bring your body and mind back into balance.

What to Expect During Your Session
Each 60-minute Abhyanga massage is performed in the warm, quiet therapy room at The Space, with your comfort and privacy carefully respected throughout. Here’s how the session flows:
Initial Consultation –
On your first visit, we begin with a brief 10 min consultation and intake form to understand your needs, dosha (body type), any areas of concern, and to ensure the massage is tailored to you.
Massage Begins with the Lower Back & Legs –
We start with grounding strokes on the lower back, then move down the backs of the legs and feet, helping you drop into a state of deep relaxation.
Back & Neck –
The entire back and neck are worked thoroughly, relieving stress, tension, and stiffness held in these commonly overworked areas.
Front of the Legs & Feet –
Moving to the front of the legs and feet, circulation is stimulated, and energy pathways (nadis) are gently activated.
Stomach, Chest, and Neck –
Finally, the abdominal area, chest, and neck are massaged with care, supporting digestion, emotional balance, and heart-centered calm.
The massage is done using warm, organic sesame oil, chosen for its nourishing and detoxifying properties. If you have a specific health concern and have had an Ayurvedic consultation beforehand, I may use a specially selected herbal oil suited to your condition.
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
Wear comfortable clothing and allow some time to relax afterward if possible.
It’s best to eat lightly before your session.
You may wish to leave the oil on your skin for a few hours post-massage to maximize its therapeutic benefits. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting a little oily.
After the massage, drink warm water or herbal tea and rest if you can.
