Summer is the season of Pitta—bright, hot, sharp, and intense. While this energy fuels motivation and transformation, too much of it can lead to irritability, inflammation, and burnout. Ayurveda teaches us how to stay cool and balanced, both physically and emotionally, during this vibrant season.
Here are a few simple summer wellness tips to keep your inner fire in harmony:

Favour Cooling Foods

Opt for fresh fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and coconut. Avoid overly spicy, salty, or fried foods, which can aggravate Pitta. Think light, hydrating meals—salads, seasonal vegetables, and herbal teas like mint or fennel. I’m currently obsessed with 3 bean roasted veg salad with loads of fresh mint and coriander.

Soften Your Practice

Summer is a great time to embrace gentler yoga. Try moon salutations, forward bends, and cooling pranayama like Sheetali (cooling breath). Move mindfully and stay connected to your breath, whether it’s your yoga practice or your other movement practices, try slowing it down a bit.

Stay Cool, Inside and Out

Avoid the midday heat when possible. Wear breathable, light-coloured clothing, and stay hydrated. Rosewater spritzes or sandalwood oil can soothe and refresh the senses. Spend time near water if you are feeling overly hot or frazzled. I love the fernery in Birr Castle at this time of year, it’s the perfect amount of cooling and calm!

Keep Emotions in Check

Pitta can spark fiery emotions. Balance this by creating time for rest, journaling, or simply being in nature. A short daily meditation can work wonders to cool the mind.

As always, Ayurveda is about tuning into your body and nature’s rhythms. By making small seasonal adjustments, we can move through summer feeling grounded, joyful, and vibrant.
